Cork, Dublin and Shannon Airports Waive Aircraft Parking Charges during the Volcanic Ash Cloud Crisis

During the recent Volcanic Ash Cloud crisis Irish airspace was closed for just over six days.

Approximately 3,200 flights were cancelled at Cork, Dublin and Shannon airports because of the disruption related to volcanic ash from April 15 to April 21. However, Dublin, Shannon and Cork Airports remained open and facilities remained available throughout the disruption.

It is estimated that up to 400,000 embarking/disembarking passengers were affected by the event and the combined cost to the three airports was in the order of €1 million per day due to this loss of air traffic.

However, to show solidarity with airline customers, Cork, Dublin and Shannon airports are waiving charges for aircraft parked at their airports between April 15 and April 21. The airport authority is making this gesture in recognition of the extreme operational difficulties faced by their airline partners during this period.

Since Irish airspace was reopened on Wednesday, April 21, Cork, Dublin and Shannon airports have endeavoured to assist their airline partners to resume normal operations as quickly as possible.
